INSTALLATION
Installation of GiAPA (Normally only
taking around 20 minutes)
Download GiAPA software and User Manual from the Internet
(using the DOWNLOADS menu). Obtain the passwords
needed for downloading from an authorized GiAPA partner
listed in menu ABOUT US.
The file received will be an OS/400 *SAVF and an .exe file
to run from your PC, zipped with WINZIP®. Unzip the
downloaded files on your PC.
Use FTP (or similar) in binary mode to transfer the unzipped
save file from the PC to an empty save file on your iSeries.,
and install GiAPA using CL-command
RSTLIB GIAPALIB *SAVF SAVF(your_savefile_name).
After the restore, the GiAPA Performance data collection can
be used immediately. Just select option 11 from the menu,
called by command GIAPALIB/GIAPA. A software security code
is only needed to allow use of performance data analysis.
Graphics can only be produced
after installing the file named IceBreakSetup????.exe on
your PC. This restores the GiAPA Graphics software on your
server. Installation details can be found in the back of the
GiAPA User Manual.

The GiAPA MENU
Select between menus from the rightmost column, or
specify an option within the menu selected. To call the
menu use command GIAPALIB/GIAPA.

COLLECTION
Note: GiAPA can send a message to the system operator if a
job is looping. For details, see PRODUCT INTRO / Loop Trap.

ANALYSIS
Specify an output
result member name and some text, and select one or more of
the input members containing collected performance data to
be included in the expansion and analysis run.
The batch job submitted to expand and analyze the data
will
- expand the raw performance data selected (convert
from the compressed binary format to
normal
data base files)
- analyze the data, by default only keeping detail
records for jobs that might have or cause
performance
problems (saves disk space + speeds up reporting).
- create job type summary records for the remaining
+/- 96 % of the input data

As shown here, data has been analyzed - GiAPA works as your
"Expensive External Performance Expert":
à 14+ million records showing job
resource usage were processed
à 54962 times were additional data
collected due to high job CPU %
à but only 658 jobs were kept for
further analysis
